LC's Story
Even though I have always had small breasts I had
never really
considered Breast Augmentation as I was always thin and they
looked fine on my frame. I was a small 36B but tall so on my frame
they looked smaller. As I got into my late 20's. I found I was also
putting on a little weight, and my breast size bothered me a bit
more.
My journey began when I met a nurse at a laser hair
removal at clinic
I was going to in Toronto. I had asked her if shed ever watched
a BA
being performed, and she told me she had, and admitted to me that
she had had the surgery herself. So I proceeded to bombard her with
questions about the surgery, and when I asked her if they feel natural
she even let me look and feel the implants. I thought they looked
amazing and I decided I was going to look into the procedure even
more. It really helped knowing someone that had been through it,
and
seeing the results.
The nurse told me she had had surgery with Dr Ronald
Levine, who
performs out of St Josephs Hospital in Toronto. I wanted to go to
her
Doctor as having seen his work I felt more comfortable. Plus she
had
said that she knew a few other girls that had been to him too. A
friend
of mine at work also had been thinking of the procedure, so we both
made an appointment to see him.
The day of the appointment we were both pretty nervous
and wasn't
sure what to expect. As soon as we met him we felt comfortable
immediately. He was very professional and was very patient with
all
our questions. He gave us a detailed description of the implants,
placement, incision, possible complications and surgery itself.
When
we went to try on the implants it was quite strange, they felt huge!!!
But
even so when I looked in the mirror I loved the look of my body
with
the implants so knew right away I wanted it done. Dr Levine told
us
both we could have implants placed over the muscle as we had
enough tissue to cover it and that would make the most natural on
us.
He said it was up to us which incision we had, either nipple of
crease
incision (with armpit you have to have under the muscle).
I had been worried that at a consultation a surgeon
would try and
make you book surgery straight away, but Dr Levine didn't which
I
thought was very professional. He said to think about everything
carefully and we were welcome to come and see him again if we had
any more questions. Walking out of that first consultation we were
so
excited and both decided we wanted to do it. We both knew that Dr
Levine was the surgeon for us though, I think its a womans intuition.
A fter a few days we were still excited but knew we
should go on a few
more consultations just for other opinions. So we went on one other
consultation, but this time we immediately knew this surgeon was
not
for us! He got very impatient with our questions and we did not
feel
confident about his ability. He also told me that I had to have
under
the muscle as I had 'mounds' and no way near enough tissue to
cover the implant. I thought it was rude that he would ever call
anyones
breasts 'mounds'!!! And my friend who was a large B he even said
he
would do under the muscle for her too, so we figured he only liked
to
to surgery that one way and were not impressed.
We ended up going to see Dr Levine again with more
questions.
Again he answered them all and took the time to listen. I expressed
my worry about getting overs and that another surgeon had said he
would only do unders, and he assured me again that I had enough
tissue to cover the implant. We also said that we had read there
was
more chance of getting CC (capsular contracture...hardening of the
breasts) with overs, but he said he hadn't seen any more CC in his
overs compared with unders. I decided on smooth, round implants,
375cc overfilled to 400-425cc, he would decide in surgery. As for
incision I still hadn't decided, I had wanted crease as the thought
of
going through the nipple made me feel woozy! I asked Dr Levine if
he
had the decision what would he do, and he said nipple as with my
pale skin he thought that would heal best. But he said I could decide
on the day of surgery so to think about it. I felt so comfortable
with all
his answers that when I came out I booked the surgery!
I had booked surgery about 4 months away, and that
felt like an
eternity! During that time I researched as much as I could, mainly
on
the internet. I begun to realize that there were not many girls
that got overs, and they were considered to look more fake. I never
understood
this though, as with overs the implant is right behind your natural
breast tissue, therefore the most natural placement. If you have
little
breast tissue then unders are definitely the most natural. I was
a little
worried that overs would be the best thing for me, but I kept assuring
myself that Dr Levine was the expert and to trust him. So even though
I
used the internet for research I didn't get caught up with other
peoples
opinions or believe everything I read.. Continued
